Do you spend all day on the tools?
Typically tradespeople are really good at their trade, but they often struggle when it comes to marketing their business and acquiring new customers.
Here are 4 low-cost marketing ideas for tradespeople that are easy to implement.
- Always give 2 business cards to every customer – one for them and one to pass on.
- Collect an email address from each customer – Now you can send them an email 1 month after completing your work to check that everything is as expected (and this can be automated using an email system like www.simplemail.co.nz)
- Put your business card and a hand-written note into the letter box of each property beside the place you are doing work. Your note might say “Hi there, I’m doing some work at your neighbours place at the moment so I though I’d let you know I’m in the area. Please feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way” – notice that the focus is on helping the customer rather than trying to sell them something. Added bonus: The person who receives your note will probably ask your neighbour about you and your work.
- Offer at least one alternative to a mobile number for customers to call you on – see my article, are your contact details holding your business back? for more info. Remember, you want to be the easiest person to contact, having only a mobile number creates a small barrier for a customer that is on the fence about calling you.
