Blue ticks and badges, what’s all the fuss about?

Is Meta Verified (the Blue Tick) worth it?

We’ve gone and got ourselves a shiny new badge on our Instagram and Facebook profiles. It’s called “Meta Verified”, and no, it’s not quite the same thing as the old-school tick celebrities used to get for free.

We only got ours recently, and because two badges are better than one, we also became a LinkedIn Ads Certified Agency. Two different badges, two different platforms, so let’s take them one at a time to shed some light on what they’re all about.

In this post:

  • What is ‘Meta Verified’, anyway?

What is ‘Meta Verified’, anyway?

Meta Verified is a paid subscription from Meta, not something you’re awarded for X amount of followers. It gets you the blue tick, plus a few practical extras like, protection against impersonation accounts, better support for when sh*t hits the fan, and a bit of a visibility boost across Instagram and Facebook.

Pricing runs in tiers. We’re on a plan that costs us $94 a month, which gets us prioritised support, our profile featured across Facebook and Instagram feeds, and two links we can add to our Reels every month.

Is it worth it for your business?

Maybe! It depends on how much you’re using the platforms right now. If you’re running ads or getting decent organic traffic on Instagram or Facebook, the trust boost and faster support access tend to earn their keep.

If your business barely posts or you’re just getting started, it’s probably not worth paying for it yet. The badge won’t do much heavy lifting on its own as it works best alongside content and activity that’s already happening.

But if you’re not sure, you can always ask us.

Why we got ours

For us, it came down to two things, trust and support. A verified badge tells anyone landing on our page that we’re actually who we say we are, and direct access to real support beats waiting in a general queue when something goes wrong.

As a content strategy agency that also handles digital content creation day to day, a badge means nothing without the actual work behind it, but it’s a nice, visible signal that we take our own presence as seriously as we take our clients’. Plus, we like experimenting with stuff like this ourselves, and it’s nice hearing people say blue looks good on us.

Random fact: Turns out blue is a very deliberate choice of colour when you’re looking at official businesses. Banks, tech giants, and social platforms all lean on blue for the same reason. It reads as trustworthy, easy to talk to and professional. Just take a look at Visa, PayPal, Xero, Meta, LinkedIn…aaaaaaall blue!

We’re also a LinkedIn Ads Certified Agency now

Likeable Lab has also become a LinkedIn Ads Certified Agency, through a pilot programme LinkedIn is rolling out globally. Our team completed certifications across LinkedIn Ads Fundamentals, Marketing Strategy, Content and Creative Design, and Measurement.

This one’s separate from the blue tick, and it’s not something an individual business gets for itself. It’s a credential for agencies that manage LinkedIn Ads campaigns, proving the team behind them is trained and tested on the platform’s current best practices, not just figuring it out as they go.

Something to note here (and that we have to say because LinkedIn says so): LinkedIn does not endorse or guarantee the services of any agency that completes the LinkedIn Ads Agency Certification programme.

If you ever run LinkedIn Ads with us, it means these legends who’ll create your campaigns have been trained and tested on LinkedIn’s own best practices. Smarter audience targeting, sharper creative, and reporting that actually ties back to real business outcomes rather than chasing vanity numbers.

Quick questions about all these ticks and badges

  1. Is Meta Verified the same as the old blue tick celebrities used to get? No. The old checkmark was awarded for free to notable public figures and brands. Meta Verified is a paid subscription any eligible business can apply for.
  2. Can my business become LinkedIn Ads Certified too? Not directly. This one’s a credential for agencies that manage LinkedIn Ads campaigns, aimed at the team running the work rather than the business paying for it. What you can do is choose to work with a content agency, or a business that’s completed it.
  3. Should my business be Meta Verified? Let us help you work that out. We’ll give you our honest take on whether it’s worth it for your business.

Ticking the right boxes

Neither badge does the work on its own. They’re proof of what’s already happening behind the scenes. We are doing all the right things (and ticking the right boxes according to Meta and LinkedIn), so it’s made total sense for us to go down this road.

We’re a digital marketing agency taking the reins of a business’ marketing strategy, so trust is something we think about across every one of our digital marketing services. And if blue ticks and badges help us gain more trust, then we’re all for it.

If you want a hand figuring out whether it makes sense for your business, then a chat with us could be worth it.
